About The Abbwell Group
You will work with a counselling and equine-assisted therapy provider that supports children, young people and adults across the Bundaberg region. The team delivers evidence-based, goal-focused services for private clients and NDIS participants. Sessions take place in a calm rural setting that supports emotional regulation, sensory needs and meaningful therapeutic engagement.

Role Overview
You will provide occupational therapy services that support clients to build functional skills, regulate emotions and improve daily life. You will work alongside counsellors and equine-assisted therapists. You will also contribute to assessments, planning and reviews under NDIS Capacity Building and Core supports.

Key Responsibilities
You will

  • complete functional assessments, standardised testing and reports aligned with NDIS requirements
  • deliver individual OT sessions focused on sensory regulation, emotional regulation and skill development
  • collaborate with counsellors and equine-assisted therapists to integrate OT strategies in session planning
  • contribute to equine-assisted therapy programs where suitable and within scope
  • provide practical recommendations and home-based strategies that support daily function
  • monitor progress and review goals, plans and interventions
  • prepare high-quality reports that support funding reviews, change of circumstances or therapy continuation
  • maintain accurate notes, risk considerations and compliance with NDIS and organisational practices
  • liaise with families, carers, support coordinators, schools and other allied health providers
  • provide clear, respectful communication to clients and stakeholders
  • uphold child safety, ethical practice and privacy standards

Essential Qualifications and Requirements
You must have

  • current AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist
  • experience supporting clients with psychosocial needs, developmental delays or trauma backgrounds
  • strong knowledge of sensory regulation, capacity building therapies and functional skill development
  • understanding of NDIS operational guidelines, reasonable and necessary principles and evidence expectations
  • ability to work independently in an outdoor, animal-assisted environment
  • current Working With Children Check (Blue Card)
  • NDIS Worker Screening
  • professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • current First Aid and CPR

Desired Skills and Experience
It helps if you have

  • experience working in regional or rural settings
  • experience with animal-assisted or nature-based therapeutic environments
  • experience collaborating with counsellors, psychologists or behavioural practitioners
  • confidence in writing functional capacity assessments and NDIS therapy reports
  • interest in trauma-informed practice
  • ability to adapt communication for children, teens and adults

Working Environment
You will work at Willow Park, a 70 acre rural property. It provides space, calm and privacy that supports therapy outcomes. Sessions may occur outdoors, in paddocks or in covered work areas. You need to be comfortable around horses and farm environments. You will work with a supportive, collaborative team that values wellbeing, transparency and practical outcomes.
